What is media relations? It is more than just sending out an occasional press release! It is about leveraging experience and relationships into positive coverage when you are soliciting it and mitigating negative coverage when that comes into play.
- The Pitch. A big part of what Chemistry brings to the table is the ability to pitch stories to journalists about your business and get them covered in the places that will benefit you. This is done successfully by identifying newsworthy stories in the work that you do every day and sharing them with the right media organization or journalist in a way that will get them to push it of the top of their list.
- The Relationship. One of the most effective ways of pitching media is through relationships. Our team has that credibility with news organizations both in the St. Louis area and around the country. When you can contact an organization and they already know your name, you are already ahead of your competition.
- Inbound Requests. With those relationships in place, and a knowledge of what you do, organizations may start calling and asking to leverage your expertise in stories they are covering. It is our job to encourage and foster this activity. We will see that you are included in the right stories to amplify your brand and boost your reputation.
- Times of Crisis. Unfortunately, not every call from the media is about a positive story. If your company or organization lands in a situation that doesn’t look good, we will leverage our experience to mitigate things as much as possible. We have been through this both as spokespeople and as reporters. We know the questions that are coming, and we can advise you on the best way to answer them so as to mitigate the negative coverage. The greatest “victories” in media relations are often the stories you keep out of the news.
