Time to Salute the Patriot Guard!

As patriotic Americans in grade school, we were taught to pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. Then we grew up.

When we get caught up in our everyday live focusing on kids, family, hobbies and our jobs, we tend to forget our freedoms, and even take them for granted.

Dunagan(9of50)It is on rare occasions that the general public sees the work of a small group of faithful, dedicated, reliable and staunch supporters of our veterans. They honor the flag and all the principals we hold so dearly as Americans.  The Patriot Guard Riders’ work symbolizes honor and respect for those who have fought, those who continue to fight, and those who have given their lives fighting and believing in the freedoms we have as Americans.

On March 29th, 2016, as one of the Patriot Guard Riders, Ride Captain Mark Schroeder, was doing his selfless part in escorting a veteran to his final resting place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St Louis MO, he was abruptly killed on Telegraph Road  by a distracted and non-observant driver.

It is obvious, this driver is not aware of, or simply disregarded the laws of funeral processions. in either case, this tragic incident cost our nation a true hero. Bringing this a little closer to home, my neighbor was on the same escort as Mark Schroeder.   Mark’s son also happens to be a Facebook friend of mine.

Christian Brown Groundbreking (9 of 92)Depending on the geographic location, it is routine for Patriot Guard Riders to volunteer their time, working 200+ missions per year, sometimes participating in 2-3 missions per day.  Through rain, snow, sleet and good weather these patriotic motorcycle riders are redefining the typical biker image. While many are veterans themselves they truly understand the value and valor of honoring others.

As an event organizer having managed hundreds of events honoring veterans across the country, (two events this week in Atlanta suburbs), I am personally humbled to know that no matter where we produce events I can always call on the Patriot Guard Riders!  I am always amazed at how willing, gracious and supportive the Patriot Guard Riders’ are in their endless dedication to providing tribute to our veterans.

Christian Brown Groundbreking (73 of 92)The Patriot Guard Riders salute what is amazingly beautiful about this country.  As rough and unapproachable as they may seem, that is only a façade to the underlying kindness, loyalty, helpfulness, friendliness and patriotically American core that represents every member.

Today, after reflecting on how short life is, following the loss of Patriot Guard Ride Captain Mark Schroeder, I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone that considers themselves a Patriot Guard Rider. Your service and dedication boldly makes the statement that Patriotism lives on. Thank you for your service and dedication to honoring those who deserve to be recognized for defending our freedoms!
