Chris Kuban to Emcee PRSA Spring Symposium “Handling Sexual Harassment in the Media”
As the 2018 St. Louis Public Relations Society of America’s Programming, Development and Networking Committee Chair, Chris Kuban has put together an amazing lineup of spectacular speakers on the issue of sexual harassment. Chris is also the founder and managing consultant at Chemistry PR and Multimedia.
If a PR professional, you need to ask yourself if you’re prepared to represent a company or client in a sexual harassment case? Have you ever been sexually harassed? Has someone in your organization been accused of sexual harassment? I am honored to emcee the PRSA Spring Symposium “Handling Sexual Harassment in the Media” on April 26, 2018 at Missouri Baptist University. At this important event public relations professionals and students gain insight and learn skills to help them effectively understand and manage sexual harassment claims in the media from the accuser side as well as from a corporate/organizational crisis management side.
Sexual harassment isn’t new. It is, however, getting more media attention in recent years then ever before. High profile celebrities, actors, politicians, and business leaders are being called out or coming out to the media almost daily. This symposium is designed to share how public relations and human resource professionals, the Police Department and prosecutors handle cases of sexual harassment. Attendees at this 2018 event will hear firsthand from Harvey Weinstein accuser, actress Katherine Kendall (originally from Memphis), her personal story and the challenges she has faced, and still faces, as she broke her silence in the media.
It is critical in the public relations industry to possess good crisis communications skills including how to master effective representation of both accuser and the accused in sexual harassment cases as well as best practices for breaking a story in today’s 24-hour news cycle.
I am pleased to introduce a line-up of some of the most knowledgeable professionals in media and law who are in the trenches regarding this issue and networking with them. That speaker line-up includes Christopher Johnson, HR Director, Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery, City of Ballwin detectives Jessica Ovca and Henry Schoemehl, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kathi Alizadeh, National Media Guru Peter Shankman, and our panelist discussion features St Louis Public Radio reporters Lauren Trager and Jo Mannies.
