Kick Your PR Marketing Up a Notch During the Holidays
This is the time of year when retailers have prepared their brick and mortar locations for a busy shopping season. Bright colors and lights fill the aisles and the holiday background music is queued up to start on Black Friday – or before. Discounts and special buys are planned, and promotional materials are being printed and posted. Is anyone going to even notice your PR agency during this busy season? Is it a waste of your time to continue marketing your services now? In fact, this is a great time to do just that. While others are keying down for the season, you can benefit from ‘putting a boot in it’ and reaching out to current and prospective clients. Here are some ideas for kicking PR marketing up a notch during the holidays.
Pursue some coverage for your organization. Pour over some successes of the year. Has your team pulled off some crazy challenging projects and come out shining? Have a handful of your clients raved about your services because you made rock stars out of them? Industry publications and outlets are eager to learn who stood out among the best and feature them …. that’s you! Pull some visuals together, get your list of successes drafted up, and get the word out.
Pursue some extra coverage for your top clients. This doesn’t have to be free services, but it could be. Following the same principle as the first tip, ask your best client to share some crazy successes during the year. It may be something you helped to achieve or not. Just write up a very cool piece and get their story out to the publications and media outlets that never grow tired of sharing great content during the holiday season.
Leverage the mood of the season. Do you represent nonprofit organizations? The holiday season is a time of giving. Pitching causes and the unique opportunities nonprofit organizations face during the year increases exposure and, in turn, boosts supporters and advocates looking for something to get behind.
Pitch the people behind the business. Your clients and prospects are real people, and some are hidden behind the businesses they own and manage. Create surveys that capture some of the quirks and realisms of the people behind the scenes. Ask fun and seasonal questions that bring out the very best in them. Silliest holiday traditions. Most memorable holiday office party (with just a few details). Interview children of key players in the business or organization about where Santa shops for kids whose lists are mailed late. Be creative – the media enjoys creativity!
The holiday season brings no shortage of stressors. Missing great PR opportunities shouldn’t be one of them. Bolster current client relationships and create new ones by kicking their (and your) PR marketing up a notch during the holiday season.
